Futsal league | Wednesdays | 5-7.30pm | Eltham Hill Secondary School Gymnasium | Eltham | London | SE9 5EE

Our football academy provides intense football training sessions using high quality training drills, reward systems and data to monitor and drive performance. Our academy is for 6-15 year olds and is based in South East London.

Our training is built on integrity, discipline and tempo - that is at the heart of everything that we do. What is most important to the coaches and staff at GND Football Academy is player attitude and player welfare. Our main aim is to ensure that players can play to the best of their abilities unhampered by on or off field concerns. We support them with the tools to develop mental resilience, but also want them to be empowered and understand how to manoeuvre when they are presented with a challenge. The players who need more concentrated support can schedule our lighter touch mentoring sessions, our step up life coaching sessions or our more intense sports counselling sessions.

Our football training sessions focus on hand to eye coordination, ball control, ball manipulation, game awareness, intelligence and understanding, and fitness, strength and conditioning methods. They are all very different principles, yet they are all linked. We believe that one principle cannot live without the other if we are to develop all areas of a footballer to make them complete in knowledge and practice.

Internal exhibition matches

We train weekly and play internal exhibition matches every month at Harris Academy Greenwich in Eltham, South East London. Our players are rewarded with medals for everyone who takes part and trophies for those who have displayed footballing excellence within those matches. Our training sessions take place on grass and 3G to give players the experience of playing on different football surfaces. Our GND Football Academy sessions will improve player concentration and coordination, technical ability, footballing intelligence, strength, stamina and speed. Our sessions will also improve heart health and blood pressure, reduce body fat and promote teamwork and confidence.

Player assessments

We assess the players every quarter and monitor their performance by recording data against our football assessment framework. This data is used to monitor their performance using data intelligence, encourage the player to monitor their own performance and work towards SMART goals, and keep the parents informed by way of a personalised football report, which provides them with something tangible and measurable for their child’s progress. The data can also be used to give professional scouts and clubs an accurate insight on the player’s attributes, qualities and areas of development.

Futsal league

We are part of a midweek futsal league in Eltham, South East London where players are able to develop an improved and accelerated technical understanding of football. Futsal is played on a smaller and a hard court pitch, compared to football. A futsal ball is a size below a normal football and has 30% less bounce. Futsal improves decision making skills, provides players with more touches on the ball, develops the confidence in players to go 1v1 against their opponent and improves reaction time. Futsal allows players to be creative in getting around their opposition and the heavier ball increases the power of players.

Awards ceremony

We have an end of year presentation to recognise and celebrate achievement and also to motivate players to continue achieving. Awards are symbols of achievement, hard work, professional success, and personal goals reached. They are a motivation to reach for even higher levels of success. They provide a tangible reminder of what is possible and an opportunity for team members to support and congratulate each other for their accomplishments.

Away day

We also have an end of season GND Football Academy away day. Team away days are one of the most popular and powerful things on the GND Football Academy calendar. It provides coaches, staff and players means of building off field teamwork, which has an impact on field. It allows for developing strategy and improving the performance of individuals and teams. It also provides an opportunity to address any lessons learned in preparation for the new season.

Scouting and player representation

Our elite players are often scouted and referred to professional clubs via our Sports Management service, where they are also managed by GND, provided with 1:1 football coaching and given a tailored food plan. These players are also given an agent to represent them and manage their contract negotiations.

Whatever your level or love for football is, the aim with GND Football Academy is to provide an opportunity to gain a holistic professional, yet fun and rewarding understanding and practice of the beautiful game.

Sports Counselling

Telephone, video, online or face to face engagement with a professional sports psychologist to support you in enhancing your performance and mental attitude

Sports counselling or sports psychotherapy is a specialised area where we are concerned with the wellbeing, mental functioning, and physical performance of athletes. There is particular emphasis on the mental component of athletic performance.

Why sports counselling?

Mental health in sport has recently been receiving all the attention it deserves. However, it is not sport in general which has taken centre stage, it is more particularly the elite sportspeople who have had the spotlight shone on them.

The stigma around mental health in general is changing for the better and the best of sportspeople have always been revered as the best role models. Therefore, when fusing these two subjects together, there has been a lot of media spotlight, which can only benefit all people involved in sport, not just those suffering with mental health.

One of the reasons why elite sportspeople are in the spotlight is because while their sport may be recreational to some degree, on the other hand it is their job and in most cases their way of life. Therefore, it can completely dominate and shape who they are and how they behave from day to day. If this starts to impact on someone’s performance negatively in any way, that’s when it is a necessary time for you to have a conversation with a sports counsellor.

How can we help?

With GND Sports Counselling, our focus is on you and on improving your mental performance, which will have a positive effect on your physical performance. We look at your behaviours, mental processes and well-being linked to your sporting profession. Simply put, sports counselling can help you expand your tools when challenging your thoughts and feelings.

We can support you in improving your:

  • confidence

  • focus

  • composure

  • intensity

  • trust in your own abilities and performance

We have worked with a variety of clients from sporting backgrounds including football, athletics and boxing. We have supported those who have struggled to cope with some key areas including, but not limited to:

  • anxiety

  • pressure

  • depression

  • addiction

  • commitment to training

  • fear of failure

  • managing rejection and failure

  • injury and rehabilitation

  • retirement

  • transition from sport into a different job sector

This service is for semi-professional, professional and elite sportspeople who want to enhance their sports performance and mental attitude. Our aim is to broaden your self-identity so that you can find value in yourself beyond your sports performance, whilst also supporting your sporting goals. Sessions take place face to face, telephone call, video call, email or instant messaging.

Let’s start by having a conversation with a GND Elite Sports Counsellor.
